Funded by the Social Welfare Bureau, the Mother’s Association’s Xiaohuan Integrated Elderly Services Centre recently (on 11 June) organised the ‘Joyful Senior Years: A New Tour of the Old City’ event, taking elderly service users and their families on a visit to Taipa’s Flower City Park. They also visited the ‘Filial Piety and Parental Love Art Exhibition’ held at the Mother’s Association’s care home, followed by afternoon tea in a warm and lively atmosphere.

On the day of the event, accompanied by centre staff and their families, the elderly participants strolled through Huacheng Park, taking in the park’s lush, green scenery. The group then proceeded to view the ‘Art Exhibition of Filial Piety and Parental Grace’, which was on display in the park’s activity room. Centred on the theme ‘Cherishing Family Bonds: Love at Your Fingertips’, the exhibition featured collaborative works created by residents of the Mothers’ Association Care Home and their families. The exhibits encompassed a diverse range of art forms, including harmonious pastels, seasonal scroll paintings and pearl mandalas. The average age of the residents who took part in the creation of these works was 92, with the eldest reaching 106. Through the medium of art, the elderly were able to relive their memories; their works also showcased their vitality and potential, prompting visiting elderly residents and their families to pause and admire them, finding a deep sense of resonance.

Following the exhibition, the centre arranged for the elderly residents and their families to visit a Hong Kong-style café to enjoy a leisurely afternoon tea. Whilst savouring the delicacies, everyone shared their experiences of the event, and the atmosphere was filled with constant laughter and cheerful conversation.
