The Mother’s Association Xia Huan Integrated Elderly Services Centre recently organised the “Caregivers’ Activity Series – Aromatherapy Workshop”, inviting a total of twenty participants, including elderly service users, family members and caregivers, to take part. Through the creation of aroma stones, participants were able to relax both mind and body during the creative process, whilst also fostering mutual communication and emotional bonds.

This workshop is one of the centre’s regular activities within its carer support services, aimed at addressing the physical and mental needs of carers and providing opportunities for stress relief. On the day of the event, under the guidance of staff, participants learnt the steps involved in making scented stones. From mixing the plaster proportions, selecting moulds and adding essential oils to demoulding and decorating the stones, they devoted their full attention and care to every step. The elderly participants created their pieces accompanied by family members or carers, fostering a warm and harmonious atmosphere.

One participant remarked that the process of making the aroma stones was calming, allowing them to temporarily set aside the pressures of daily caregiving and enjoy a moment of creative time all to themselves; some family members of the elderly participants also felt that the activity provided a relaxed platform for interaction, enabling them to deepen their understanding of one another through collaboration.
