With Mother’s Day fast approaching, the centre invited staff and students from City University’s School of Ageing Studies to join the elderly residents and their families in making ‘Twist Flowers’. In a warm atmosphere of intergenerational interaction, the elderly residents and their families worked together to create a heartfelt piece of artwork, not only creating a special ‘precious moment’ just for each other, but also fostering emotional connection, communication and collaboration. At the conclusion of the event, every participant was able to take home the little flowers they had made with their own hands, and everyone posed for a joyful group photograph – a truly heart-warming and touching scene. Through this relaxed and enjoyable craft experience, family members were able to learn to observe and respond more attentively to the needs of the elderly whilst spending time with them, thereby further enhancing their empathy and caregiving skills in daily life.
