Little Hands Hold Big Hands: The Senior Student Mentoring Programme
25/07/2026

Recently, the care home has been buzzing with energy and filled with laughter, thanks to the young volunteers taking part in the ‘Little Hands Hold Big Hands: Senior Mentoring Programme’, who have been visiting the care home to keep our elderly residents company.
Full of energy, the young volunteers have taken on various daily tasks at the home, such as leading exercise sessions, reading the newspaper aloud and organising group games. Beyond leading these activities, they have also taken the initiative to step into the residents’ world, listening to their daily lives and life stories, and offering the most sincere companionship and care with their innocent hearts. Like rays of sunshine, the young volunteers not only brought a burst of vitality to the care home but also added a splash of colour to the residents’ daily lives.
Through this programme, the care home also aims to provide the young volunteers with valuable ‘work experience’. Accompanied by staff members, the young volunteers gained an understanding of workplace operations by carrying out specific duties, whilst also drawing on the valuable life wisdom shared by the elderly through their interactions. Rather than relying solely on knowledge from textbooks, encouraging young people to engage with the community, experience hands-on care home work and participate in intergenerational exchanges is far more effective in helping the younger generation develop an understanding of their future careers, bringing profound mutual growth to all involved.
