‘Fun for All Ages’ — Young and Old Hand in Hand: The Great Easter Treasure Hunt
30/03/2026

Easter symbolises vitality and hope. On 30 March, the Mother’s Association Care Home held a festive event entitled ‘Fun-Filled Fun for the Elderly’, to which children from the Mother’s Association St John’s Nursery (UA Campus) were specially invited to spend a delightful time filled with laughter alongside the home’s residents.
After more than twenty residents and over ten parent-child pairs had met and got to know one another at the Mother’s Association Care Home, the activities commenced. The first session involved the young and old working together to create colourful “jelly eggs”. Under the guidance of “Dr Chicken” and “Dr Rabbit”, the residents and children practised the “squeeze-and-release” motion to pour the jelly mixture into egg moulds. This not only helped strengthen both groups’ hand muscles but also trained their ability to distinguish colours. After all their hard work, the children were able to enjoy the jelly cups prepared in advance by the residents alongside their elderly friends. When it was time to finish, they were all reluctant to stop and asked for seconds, creating a delightful scene.
The subsequent ‘Easter Treasure Hunt’ saw the children darting about the care home in search of hidden Easter eggs, creating a wonderfully lively atmosphere. The most touching moment came when, after finding their eggs, the children spontaneously ran over to the elderly residents to share them, along with the festive gifts the children had prepared. As the residents received these tokens of affection from the little hands, their faces lit up with gentle smiles. This interaction between young and old within the home demonstrated the heart-warming power of intergenerational bonding.
It was a vibrant morning, during which the elderly and the children exchanged their most sincere Easter blessings through intergenerational interaction and sensory creativity, together creating a warm and joyful festive memory.
