20 March marked the traditional festival of ‘Dragon Raises Its Head’ (the second day of the second lunar month). The Mothers’ Association Care Home specially invited volunteers from the Red Cross to visit the home and provide a charity haircut service for the residents, with a total of 23 residents taking part. This day is traditionally known as ‘Shaving the Dragon’s Head’, symbolising the casting off of the old to welcome the new and bringing good fortune. The residents sat down full of anticipation, whilst the volunteers listened attentively to each elderly person’s ideas for their hairstyle and trimmed their hair with care, creating a heart-warming scene. Interestingly, even the volunteers responsible for cutting hair sat down to cut each other’s hair, symbolising that everything would go smoothly on ‘Dragon Raises Its Head’ and exchanging blessings with one another. During the event, the residents and volunteers chatted about everyday matters, with laughter filling the air and the atmosphere remaining relaxed and harmonious.
